The Project Area C "Adaptation and Climate" invites applications for a
PhD Position TP C 5.4 [Ref. #C15]
BAT II a / 2

The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) has recently been
founded by the Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, the
Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, and additional partners. It is funded
by the Hessian State Initiative for the Development of Scientific and
Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the Centre is to carry out
internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and
climate change at the organism level.

Within Research Area C, the Project Group C 5.4 will investigate the
adaptation potential of single species and communities to climate change in
combination with further stressors in model ecosystems or in
multi-generation experiments. The applicant will be responsible for the
planning, conduct and analysis of long duration experiments under varying
climate conditions with a co-exposure of terrestrial invertebrates to biotic
and abiotic stressors in terrestrial model ecosystems (TME) or terrestrial
micro-/mesocosms.

The applicant should hold an earned Diploma or Master degree in biology or
environmental sciences with a focus on experimental terrestrial ecology or
ecotoxicology. She or he should already have experiences with terrestrial
model ecosystems (TME). Very good written and oral English language skills,
fluency in German and interest in joining a multidisciplinary research team
are required.

The BiK-F Research Centre advocates gender equality. Women are therefore
strongly encouraged to apply.
Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.

The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially be
restricted for a period of 2 years with a possible extension being subject
to personal performance and availability of funds. The duty station will be
Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Official employer is
SENCKENBERGISCHE NATURFORSCHENDE GESELLSCHAFT.

Please send your application by mail or e-mail, including a detailed CV, 3
references, a list of publications, until December 31st, 2008 to
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. V. Mosbrugger, Scientific Coordinator Biodiversity and
Climate Research Centre, Senckenberganlage 25, D-60325 Frankfurt am Main,
Germany. E-mail to Personal & Service: recruiting@senckenberg.de.

The Project Area B "Biodiversity and Climate" invites applications for a
PhD Position, TP B5.2 [Ref. #B16]
BAT II / 2

The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) has recently been
founded by the
Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, the Goethe-Universität
Frankfurt am Main,
and additional partners. It is funded by the Hessian State Initiative for
the Development of
Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the Centre is to
carry out
internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and
climate change at
the organism level.
The applicant will be responsible for the exposure of selected indigenous
and
introduced/exotic aquatic invertebrate species to a range of environmental
stressor (including
toxic compounds) under varying climate conditions. These tests will be run
as single species
exposures and in common garden experiments with the aim (1) of a comparative
sensitivity
analysis, (2) to investigate the displacement risk for indigenous by exotic
species and (3) to
identify key factors that favor the spreading of exotic species in European
surface waters.
These laboratory-based findings will finally be validated under field
conditions.
The applicant should hold an earned Diploma or Master degree in biology or
environmental
sciences with a focus on experimental aquatic ecology or ecotoxicology. She
or he should
already have experiences with the culture and testing of aquatic
invertebrates. Very good
written and oral English language skills and an interest in joining a
multidisciplinary research
team are required. Knowledge of German would be an advantage, and at least
the
willingness to learn basic German is required.
The BiK-F Research Centre advocates gender equality. Women are therefore
strongly
encouraged to apply.
Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.
The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially be
